Ey up, lad—are you well? Comfy seat and all that? Good lad. Listen, check this out: we’re doing our first trade show, and I think I speak for us all when I say we are beyond excited. We’ll be attending the annual Bushcraft Show in Leicestershire from 24th to 26th May. This three-day extravaganza features workshops, talks and trade stalls all specialising in the hobby of, in effect, being a very well-trained homeless dude. With this being our first ever show, we’re all eager to get out there, finally bring GoArmy to the people, and have a chance to meet both of our fans. We’ll be bringing a wide assortment of items and are hoping to come back to Scotland very much empty-handed—so if you find yourself in Leicestershire, please do come say hello.
But that’s enough about the future, because this May marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day was, of course, a massive step in finally ending the war: victory in Europe was secured, the Third Reich toppled, and an unsteady peace was brought to a newly liberated continent. Street parties, warm embraces and general merriment were the order of the day—but the war continued elsewhere.
In the Far East the fighting had yet to stop, and many thousands were still to die while festivities carried on. It’s important to remind ourselves of this lesser-remembered theatre of war and the sacrifice that would continue for some months against a desperate and formidable foe.
And though this VE Day marks 80 years since the end of the war, it also heralds the beginning of summer to some degree. With the warmer weather rolling in, it’s definitely time to think about getting outside before it buggers off till 2027.
You know what they say: Scottish summer is the best day of the year—just praying it’s a Saturday this time around.
