Comprehensive Usage Guide
These trousers are strictly designed as over-trousers, meaning they should be worn over your standard combat trousers, utility trousers, or thermal base layers.
1. Rapid Deployment Over Boots
The standout feature of these lightweight GORE-TEX trousers is the dual-ended, full-length side zips. When a sudden storm hits, you do not need to sit down or take off your muddy combat boots. Simply unzip the trousers entirely from the side, step into them, and zip them down.
2. Micro-Climate Ventilation
Working hard in wet weather often leads to internal condensation. To prevent overheating, utilize the two-way zippers to create customized ventilation. By unzipping a few inches from the hip downwards, you create an airflow exhaust that lets heat escape while keeping the rain out.
3. Under-Layer Access
Need to access the pockets of the combat trousers you are wearing underneath? Simply unzip the top portion of the side zippers. This gives you immediate entry to your internal pockets without needing to take the over-trousers off.

History & Heritage
Introduced as a core component of the British Army’s Personal Clothing System (PCS) rollout in the 2010s, these trousers replaced the older, stiffer Woodland DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) wet-weather gear.
The transition to Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) was prompted by operations in Afghanistan, requiring a camouflage pattern that performed optimally across desert, woodland, and transitionary terrain. Alongside the aesthetic upgrade, the Ministry of Defence prioritized reducing the weight of the soldier's loadout. The resulting lightweight MVP system gave troops a highly packable, whisper-quiet shell that could remain tucked away in a Bergen or daypack until absolutely necessary, replacing heavy, rigid rain suits of the past.
Care & Maintenance Guide
To maintain the high-performance breathability and waterproof rating of your GORE-TEX/MVP trousers, proper care is vital. Dirty fabric clogs the breathable membrane, while incorrect washing strips away the water-repellent coating.
-
Washing: Machine wash on a gentle or synthetic cycle at 30°C. Use a specialist liquid cleaner designed for technical outerwear (such as Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers). Never use standard household detergents or fabric softeners, as they destroy the membrane's water-repellency.
-
Rinsing: Ensure a thorough rinse cycle to completely remove all soap residues.
-
Drying: Air dry naturally where possible. Alternatively, tumble dry on a low, gentle heat setting for 20 minutes; the gentle warmth helps reactivate the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating on the outer face fabric.
-
Re-proofing: Over time, water may stop "beading" on the surface and start wetting out the fabric. When this happens, wash the trousers with a wash-in re-proofer (like Nikwax TX.Direct) or spray them with a DWR treatment while damp.
GoArmy Surplus Quality Grading
As genuine military surplus, these trousers are available in varying conditions to match your budget:
-
Super Grade: Unissued, pristine condition; essentially brand-new items straight from military storage.
-
Grade 1: Previously issued but in excellent, fully serviceable condition. Zips, toggles, and Velcro are 100% functional, with no rips or tears (may feature a soldier's name or minor storage marks).
-
Grade 2: Showing clear signs of field use, potential minor staining, or professionally repaired patches, small rips or tears possible, but still offering robust waterproof utility at an unbeatable price point.
