📝 Description

British Army Lightweight MTP GORE-TEX Trousers | Waterproof Military MVP Over-Trousers

Never let torrential downpours or driving winds halt your outdoor operations. The Genuine British Army Lightweight MTP GORE-TEX Trousers are the gold standard in tactical wet-weather protection. Engineered from high-performance Moisture Vapour Permeable (MVP) fabric—the military’s equivalent to standard commercial GORE-TEX—these trousers deliver elite waterproof and windproof protection without adding unnecessary bulk to your pack.

Whether you are a cadet, airsoft enthusiast, bushcraft specialist, hiker, or working outdoors as a gardener or contractor, these genuine British military surplus trousers are built to withstand the harshest environments the UK weather can throw at you.

Technical Specifications

Every pair of our MTP lightweight waterproof trousers is built to exacting Ministry of Defence (MoD) standards. This guarantees robust field performance that commercial alternatives simply cannot match.

  • Material: 100% Moisture Vapour Permeable (MVP) laminated membrane with an integrated ripstop weave.

  • Camouflage Pattern: Official British Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP), seamlessly matching PCS (Personal Clothing System) issue gear, MultiCam, and HMTC.

  • Weight: Approximately 460g (varies slightly by size), offering ultra-lightweight packability.

  • Seams: 100% factory-taped and heat-sealed inner seams for absolute water tightness.

  • Waist System: Elasticated waistband paired with a heavy-duty cord lock toggle adjuster.

  • Leg Closure: Full-length, double-ended side zips running from ankle to hip, protected by secure storm flaps.

  • Ankle Adjusters: Heavy-duty Velcro tabs for a custom, tailored fit around boots.

  • Articulation: Anatomically shaped, reinforced knees designed to allow full range of movement without pulling.

Comprehensive Usage Guide

These trousers are strictly designed as over-trousers, meaning they should be worn over your standard combat trousers, utility trousers, or thermal base layers.

1. Rapid Deployment Over Boots

The standout feature of these lightweight GORE-TEX trousers is the dual-ended, full-length side zips. When a sudden storm hits, you do not need to sit down or take off your muddy combat boots. Simply unzip the trousers entirely from the side, step into them, and zip them down.

2. Micro-Climate Ventilation

Working hard in wet weather often leads to internal condensation. To prevent overheating, utilize the two-way zippers to create customized ventilation. By unzipping a few inches from the hip downwards, you create an airflow exhaust that lets heat escape while keeping the rain out.

3. Under-Layer Access

Need to access the pockets of the combat trousers you are wearing underneath? Simply unzip the top portion of the side zippers. This gives you immediate entry to your internal pockets without needing to take the over-trousers off.

Comparison: Lightweight MVP vs. Heavyweight GORE-TEX Trousers

Choosing the right military wet-weather gear depends entirely on your operational needs. Here is how our lightweight trousers compare to traditional heavy-duty alternatives:

Feature Lightweight MTP Trousers (MVP) Heavyweight MTP Waterproof Trousers
Primary Use Rapid deployment, active movement, packable backup Stationary operations, extreme cold, heavy brush-bashing
Material Build Thin, high-mobility ripstop laminate Heavy, thick 3-layer laminate fabric
Packability Rolls down to the size of a small water bottle Bulkier; requires significant rucksack space
Side Zippers Full-length (Ankle-to-Hip) for immediate boot access Lower leg zippers only (Ankle-to-Knee)
Pockets Pass-through access via side zips Integrated pockets with Velcro storm flaps

History & Heritage

Introduced as a core component of the British Army’s Personal Clothing System (PCS) rollout in the 2010s, these trousers replaced the older, stiffer Woodland DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material) wet-weather gear.

The transition to Multi-Terrain Pattern (MTP) was prompted by operations in Afghanistan, requiring a camouflage pattern that performed optimally across desert, woodland, and transitionary terrain. Alongside the aesthetic upgrade, the Ministry of Defence prioritized reducing the weight of the soldier's loadout. The resulting lightweight MVP system gave troops a highly packable, whisper-quiet shell that could remain tucked away in a Bergen or daypack until absolutely necessary, replacing heavy, rigid rain suits of the past.

Care & Maintenance Guide

To maintain the high-performance breathability and waterproof rating of your GORE-TEX/MVP trousers, proper care is vital. Dirty fabric clogs the breathable membrane, while incorrect washing strips away the water-repellent coating.

  • Washing: Machine wash on a gentle or synthetic cycle at 30°C. Use a specialist liquid cleaner designed for technical outerwear (such as Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers). Never use standard household detergents or fabric softeners, as they destroy the membrane's water-repellency.

  • Rinsing: Ensure a thorough rinse cycle to completely remove all soap residues.

  • Drying: Air dry naturally where possible. Alternatively, tumble dry on a low, gentle heat setting for 20 minutes; the gentle warmth helps reactivate the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating on the outer face fabric.

  • Re-proofing: Over time, water may stop "beading" on the surface and start wetting out the fabric. When this happens, wash the trousers with a wash-in re-proofer (like Nikwax TX.Direct) or spray them with a DWR treatment while damp.

GoArmy Surplus Quality Grading

As genuine military surplus, these trousers are available in varying conditions to match your budget:

  1. Super Grade: Unissued, pristine condition; essentially brand-new items straight from military storage.

  2. Grade 1: Previously issued but in excellent, fully serviceable condition. Zips, toggles, and Velcro are 100% functional, with no rips or tears (may feature a soldier's name or minor storage marks).

  3. Grade 2: Showing clear signs of field use, potential minor staining, or professionally repaired patches, small rips or tears possible, but still offering robust waterproof utility at an unbeatable price point.
